SEOUL — Mark Lee, known simply as Mark of the K-pop powerhouse NCT, is making a vibrant statement in South Korea’s capital with a striking outdoor advertising campaign for his debut solo album, The Firstfruit. From April 1 to April 14, a towering billboard at Musinsa Empathy Seongsu in Seoul’s Seongdong-gu district has captivated passersby, heralding the arrival of an artist stepping boldly into his own spotlight.

The campaign, strategically placed in the heart of Seoul, ties into the thematic core of The Firstfruit, which traces Mark’s personal and artistic journey across four cities: Toronto, where he was born; New York, his first home abroad; Vancouver, where he spent his school years; and Seoul, the city where he has realized his dreams as a performer. Seoul, as the current stage of his flourishing career, serves as the fitting backdrop for this high-impact promotion, amplifying its significance.

The billboard showcases two contrasting images from the album’s concept photos, blending Mark’s authentic, unpolished charm with the commanding presence of a seasoned artist. The visuals, which have sparked widespread buzz on social media, reflect the duality of an performer who is both relatable and larger-than-life. “The promotion captures Mark at his most genuine and as a star who commands attention,” said a representative from SM Entertainment, NCT’s agency.

Set for release on April 7 at 6 p.m. KST, The Firstfruit features 13 tracks, including the title song “1999,” a lively pop anthem infused with funky guitars, brass sections, and grand orchestration. The album promises an introspective dive into Mark’s musical identity, shaped by his experiences across continents. Early reviews have praised its authenticity, with tracks like “Toronto’s Window” and collaborations such as “Fraktsiya” featuring Lee Young-ji highlighting his versatility.

To celebrate the launch, Mark will host a listening session at 4 p.m. and a fan showcase at 8 p.m. on April 7 at the FB Theater in Seoul’s Seongsu Cultural and Arts Center. The events, expected to draw fervent fans, will offer a first live taste of “1999” and other album tracks, alongside insights into the making of The Firstfruit.

Mark’s solo debut marks a pivotal moment for the 25-year-old, who has spent nearly a decade as a linchpin of NCT’s various subunits, including NCT 127, NCT Dream, and the supergroup SuperM. Known as one of K-pop’s busiest idols, his transition to solo artistry has been eagerly anticipated. “This album is my life’s story,” Mark said in a recent interview, emphasizing its deeply personal nature.

As Seoul’s streets glow with his image, Mark’s campaign for The Firstfruit signals not just a new chapter but a bold declaration of an artist ready to redefine his legacy.
