SEOUL — Global K-pop juggernaut BTS has notched another milestone as their 2018 hit “IDOL,” from the repackaged album LOVE YOURSELF 結 ‘Answer’, crossed 500 million streams on Spotify as of April 8, 2025, becoming the group’s 15th track to reach this benchmark.

“IDOL,” a vibrant South African dance-inspired anthem, blends African beats with traditional Korean musical elements like pansori vocal flourishes and jangdan rhythms, layered over modern EDM and trap grooves. The track’s dynamic fusion propelled it to global acclaim upon release, peaking at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 21 on the UK Official Singles Chart. In 2022, it earned a platinum streaming certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan.

The alternate version, “IDOL (Feat. Nicki Minaj),” is also nearing a milestone, with approximately 190 million Spotify streams, inching toward 200 million.

BTS, comprising RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, continues to dominate streaming platforms, with their catalog reflecting unmatched global influence. As the group prepares for a full reunion in 2025 following mandatory military service, “IDOL”s latest achievement underscores their enduring resonance across cultures and genres.
